054 - Secret Print to PDF on iOS

Printing on iOS is straightforward, but why waste paper? You can print to PDF but it’s very well hidden.

Find something you want to print, like an article in Safari. Don’t forget to use Read View as I showed in CrunchyTip 29 to make the layout nice for printing.

Tap the Share icon.

Swipe up and tap Print.

If you want, you can choose a printer that supports AirPrint if you want a hard copy. But if you want to save the article as a PDF, pinch the preview as if you were zooming in.

The preview will fill the screen and a new Share icon will appear at the top.

Tapping the share icon shows a much more simplified share sheet.

Tap Save to Files to save the article as a PDF.

You’ll be asked to choose a folder to save it in, and can tap the generated file name to rename it if you wish.

You can then open the Files app in the future to open or share the PDF.
